How to Start Losing Weight Again

Forgive Your Eating Mistakes

Getting back on track to eating right can be a challenge, especially if you’ve just come off a series of bad decisions.  One of the best things you can do is write them down.  That’ll get them out of your head and let you move forward.  I’ll start with my list:

  • Ate a whole pizza (Hawaiian, of course)
  • Ate over thirty chicken wings
  • Ate two meat, egg and cheese sandwiches for breakfast
  • Drank coffee with all of the cream and sugar
  • Ate a whole loaf of bread with a rack of lamb dinner
  • Ate calorie-laden desserts every night for a few days (banana cream shake, ice cream with candy, etc.)
  • Actually stopped by the snack machines and bought a few things.

Now, it’s your turn.

Take Exercise One Step at a Time

Once several weeks pass without exercise, it can seem nearly impossible to start exercising again.  While it might be difficult to restart at your previous level, the goal is to just start.

Take a walk.  Get back on the bike, even if it is just a few minutes.  Go skating.  Get in the pool for a swim.  Do something simple to reconnect your body with your exercise routine.

Once you get some momentum going, you’ll be able to return your previous level of exercise and then surpass it!

Get Creative With Healthy Food

If you think you strayed from your healthy eating plan because it got boring, it may be time to do something new and exciting with your food.  You don’t want the prospect of eating “the same old food” to deter you from healthy eating.

Dig a little deeper in your healthy eating plan and find the things you haven’t tried.  Most plans encourage lots of fruits and vegetables.  Have you tried them all?

You can also multiply your options by preparing your fruits and vegetables in new ways.

  • Grilled fruits and vegetables are great.  Try grilling pineapple, eggplant, asparagus, or peaches.
  • Roasting vegetables brings out great flavor.  Carrots and parsnips develop a delicious sweetness when roasted.
  • Blend your favorite fruit into a creamy smoothie.  Bananas with frozen strawberries and a little yogurt will make a great treat.

Celebrate Your Success

You need encouragement.  Losing weight is not easy.  Find a way to celebrate your success.  Groups, forums and partners are great for helping you achieve your goals.

When it’s difficult to find others to recognize your achievements, be sure to recognize your own achievements by buying some new, smaller clothes.  Perhaps, an exercise adventure is in order for a job well done.

Share Your Strategies

When something works, don’t be shy.  What have you done to start losing weight again?  Leaving a little comment here just might someone else struggling to get back on track.
